The Joe Donoghue Memorial Open Fiddle Competition – Perpetual Cup and money prize
October 13 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Joe Donoghue was a founding member of the Killina Ceili Band in 1957. He played the fiddle and the Saxophone. He also played the Bag Pipes with the Raheen pipe Band for over 40 years. His musical abilities gained him recognition in the traditional music scene. Joe toured all over Ireland and the UK with his musical colleagues. He featured on various ceili house programmes down through the years and also played on the Mountain Lark programme which was broadcast in 1987 with the Killina Ceili Band.
Joe was proud to pass on his musical knowledge and talents to his family who still carry on the tradition to this day. In conjunction with Feile Strokestown, his family are delighted to be honouring his memory with the Joe Donoghue memorial open fiddle competition which is running in it’s second year.
The competition will take place at 3pm at Bridge Street Strokestown and is open to all ages. There is a perpetual cup and cash prize to be won. All fiddlers welcome.
1st Prize – Perpetual Cup + €200
2nd Prize – €100
